BMW did it again! This ultimate driving machine has opened another new era of hi-tech communication. New models of BMW are coming with various hi-tech features as options. One of these state-of-the-art technologies is the Bluetooth, your ultimate communication solution!
Bluetooth is one of the latest technologies in wireless communication. It brings you real-time access to network and different hardware/peripherals of different types. With Bluetooth, the term “incompatible” will be only a word found in the dictionary.
Bluetooth; invented in 1994 by Ericsson Mobile Communications, works through chips installed in different instruments. These chips have two-way radio transmitters inbuilt which can communicate over small range. Any sort of information, be it voice or data can be transmitted and received among the terminals without any physical connection. There could be more than two chips within the same working field.
Bluetooth has become an optimum choice of wireless communication because of low cost, high bandwidth, low power requirement, signal error rectification, encryption facility and harmless radiation. However, the major disadvantage is its limited range and easy detection. Bluetooth has overcome the problem of incompatibility between devices. Bluetooth devices can be set to find out other Bluetooth units and contact them automatically if supported within the range.
With Bluetooth chips, BMW cars will become a mobile communication center. The Bluetooth will handle communication between navigation systems, multimedia and entertainment equipments, car telephones, mobile phones, hands-free devices, laptops, PDA, etc. You can update your navigation system, play a music on the car audio system, all just sitting in your car holding the PDA or laptop, without any physical connection with the car-borne devices.
You can put any Bluetooth equipped device in the car and it will communicate with all other devices without any installation or set up. Even you can access Bluetooth equipments of other cars or offices straight from your car if within range. Two mobile phones or PDA can talk between them as walkie-talkie without leaning upon the cellular network or without paying any money.
You can even access the phonebook of the man in the next car, if his phone is not Bluetooth-locked. Even there were incidents of people freely entering office or house wireless network through Bluetooth from a running car. So, a new term “Toothing” was invented, which means hacking a network or a device through Bluetooth. So next time you receive an unsolicited message on your PDA, don’t blame the cellular network. It could be the guy who just overtook you driving the shiny BMW!
